Kisumu Branch
The month of June 2017 saw ICS Technical College open its door in the strategic lakeside city of Kisumu. ICS College Kisumu Branch is located at Eco Bank Building 1st Floor, Oginga Odinga Road, Kisumu City CBD. The Institution was established so as to bridge the gap in the availability of quality, affordable education in the region and to enable residents to pursue their career goals.
ICS College Kisumu campus is fully equipped with modern facilities to ensure that quality training takes place throughout the term. All departments ensure that the students get maximum practical lessons to supplement the theoretical that takes place in classrooms. The college management also encourages and ensures that the students go for field/educational trips and tours and that the student welfare program is solid.
On 10th February 2018 Kisumu campus held its maiden elections to elect new Student Leaders and Executives into the Student Union. The whole process of the elections was free, open, fair and democratic. All the candidates and their agents accepted the results with the agents signing an election declaration form.
The month of April was busy with a couple of major events. On 13th April 2018, a great Debate Competition was held with a great turn out from the students. The Debate was under three different motions and they included;
• Television has caused more harm than good
• Capitalism is a better way of reducing poverty than socialism
• Legalization of euthanasia would bring more good than harm
Debates and talks enable the students to expand their views and opinions about the world and also enrich our history and culture. With great discussions, innovations and ideas are created thus empowering them to be agents of change in the society. This not only builds their confidence but also sharpens their public speaking and communication skills.
April 20th saw the ICS College Kisumu campus hold their Annual Sports Day at Jomo Kenyatta Sports Ground. The students together with the staff got to compete in various sporting activities such as Football, Netball, Volleyball, Sackrace, and Basketball. Trophies were awarded to the top three best schools. The prowess that was shown in the field was unmatchable. At ICS College we pride ourselves in nurturing the talents of our students and many were spotted on that day. The sports day is a physically and mentally challenging event, the students got to blow off steam in healthy competition while not forgetting to have fun.
Kisumu branch held a Teen Talent search at Pandi Pieri Primary School on 21st April 2018. Guest artists included President of Student Union Brenda Achieng, Swaleh (Pod Apek), Sara Otieno, and KRTC Maskas among others. With this, many of the students got to showcase their talents in rapping, spoken word, modeling, singing, and many others. ICS College supports talent and our students are urged to join clubs like the Drama/Music that promote such talents.
All these activities took place while still trying to achieve a noble cause of raising funds. Plenty was donated including foodstuff, clothes, shoes, stationery, and utensils.
ICS College is known for its foundation in the ICT sector. ICS College was even chosen by the Ministry of ICT to be a digital village. We have invested heavily in this department and we ensure that our students get a top-notch education. Students from the department of ICT & Engineering went for an educational trip to KRA regional office at Swan Centre on the 27th of April 2018. They got to know about their daily operations, how their systems work and were even given a lesson or two by the facilitators at their offices.
As the year’s progress, so do we. We have projected for growth and expansion and we shall keep on proving why we are, The Best College in Kenya.
