World Tuberculosis Day is commemorated annually to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis, and to step up efforts to end the global tuberculosis epidemic.

The disease grows easily and is highly contagious, but new diagnostic tests may help global health officials in their quest to eliminate tuberculosis by 2030.

Both medical experts agree that education about the disease, better access to resources, more efficient diagnostic tests, and shorter-term treatments are needed to combat TB.
